Company Data Types You Could License to AI

Identify company data types you could license to AI, from internal job histories to team decisions, while separating restricted content and checking ownership.

Garrow Advisory · Published · Updated

Company data types worth discussing with AI buyers include internal process documents, work histories, team decisions and quality reviews. The useful starting point is a permitted collection that explains a business function. Separate the record category from its software location, then check ownership and restrictions before treating the collection as a licensing candidate.

Classify by work, then by system

An inbox, drive or chat tool can contain many kinds of material. Classifying everything by application hides the distinction between internal company work and files held for customers. It can also mix operational evidence with personnel or confidential discussions.

Use a function-first inventory. Name what the record documents, who understands it, where it lives, and what limitations apply. Then identify which application or export would preserve the relevant context.

micro1’s public partnerships material lists operational documentation, project histories and decision patterns. These are advertised interests, not proof that a particular seller qualifies. The following categories are a preparation framework for an owner’s discussion.

Internal procedures and knowledge

Procedures, runbooks and internal guidance can explain how your company expects work to be done. Look for ownership, version history, the intended audience and evidence of when a document was active.

Distinguish original company methods from licensed manuals, vendor documentation and customer-specific instructions. If a procedure incorporates third-party material, flag that issue for review instead of representing the entire document as company-owned.

Describe whether the collection contains current instructions, historical versions or both. A reviewer needs to know which rules applied when. Do not overwrite history simply to make the folder look consistent.

Job and project histories

Job records may connect an estimate, revision, authorization and completion. Project histories may show planning changes and the reasons recorded for them. Your preparation question is whether those connections can be explained without exposing restricted information.

Keep company-created operational history separate from customer-owned plans or deliverables. Do not infer rights from the fact that a project took place inside your business system.

Polyshares publishes selected licenses involving operating businesses. Those buyer-stated examples justify asking about operational collections; they do not establish demand for every job record or price any individual archive.

Team discussions about work

Team chat can contain explanations missing from formal records. It can also include private, personal and unrelated material. A channel export therefore needs a narrower scope than “all messages.”

Consider whether permitted discussion can be connected to the relevant internal decision record. Identify missing replies, inaccessible attachments and referenced systems. Preserve enough context to describe the limitation accurately.

Read the team conversation guide before discussing Slack or Teams archives. It focuses on channel boundaries, context and personal information rather than message-count promises.

Internal support and incident records

A support or incident collection may show symptoms, investigation, attempted remedies and closure. For a managed service provider, client agreements can be particularly important to the rights review.

Separate what your company owns from customer information it handles to provide a service. Also distinguish an internal resolution label from independent confirmation of success. Explain the label instead of implying that every closed record proves the remedy worked.

Use owner interest as a reason to examine a collection, not as evidence that tickets or runbooks are commercially qualified.

Sales administration and planning

CRM history may show qualification decisions, internal forecasts and process changes. It can also contain contact information, commercial negotiations and material supplied by prospects. Do not start with a contact-list resale assumption.

Describe the internal workflow you propose to license. Ask whether its useful content survives the necessary exclusions. If the collection becomes uninformative without restricted details, say so before preparing an export.

Do not invent revenue labels or backfill missing reasons. Buyers should understand what the business actually recorded and what the proposed package cannot demonstrate.

Saved quality reviews

A quality review collection can record an initial output, a reviewer’s correction and the applicable internal rule. If it involves AI-generated material, check buyer eligibility and Garrow’s current exclusions before pursuing it through this route.

Garrow currently excludes AI-generated content in its intake model. A buyer’s broad statement about performance feedback does not override Garrow’s restrictions or your company’s rights review. Describe the category honestly and verify whether any route is appropriate.

The AI use guide explains how to discuss intended use without presuming that every category is eligible.

Build a useful inventory entry

For each candidate, write a plain-language entry naming the business function, system, responsible person, history available, proposed inclusions, exclusions and unresolved questions. Keep actual content inside the company.

Avoid ranking collections by raw storage size alone. Ask whether the package has a meaningful boundary, whether its history can be explained and whether the proposed use is permitted. Those decisions will determine what you can discuss with a buyer.

Make rights and usefulness visible together. A commercially interesting description should not conceal a restriction that would prevent delivery.

Choose the next conversation

Select a candidate your team understands and can describe safely. You do not need to promise a polished dataset or predict a payment. You need an honest account of the potential package and the work still needed to establish its scope.

Use the readiness checklist to decide whether to resolve an internal issue first or ask a buyer about potential fit. A lack of certainty is a review task, not permission to send everything.

Enter your company details and choose system categories in Garrow’s intake.

Frequently asked questions

Is every company file a possible licensing asset?

No. Start with a bounded collection and review ownership, restrictions, personal information and usefulness for the proposed task.

Can different systems be combined?

Consider a combined package only when links between records can be explained and the rights review covers the proposed sources and use.

Do buyers require a particular software tool?

Ask the prospective buyer. The system name describes provenance; it does not itself establish value or qualification.
